The Pilot School is looking for faculty and staff for the 26-27 school year.  Pilot is a K-8 independent school for bright children who learn differently.  We work tirelessly to provide a transformative educational experience.  That means between the day our students enter our program and the day they graduate, they become different human beings.  They have developed skills they struggled to acquire before, they believe things about themselves they previously thought impossible, and they have the confidence to navigate environments that were difficult for them before Pilot.  That transformation happens because of our expert faculty.  And you could be a part of that.

Upper Division Math Teacher (Gr. 6-8)

Reports to: Head of Upper Division

Job Summary

Teachers at The Pilot School design and deliver instruction that is personalized, flexible, and responsive to student needs. Teachers are scheduled for six 45-minute periods each day and are guaranteed two 45-minute periods for preparation time. While the school does not assign traditional grades or maintain live gradebooks, teachers provide copious, meaningful feedback to students and families. This includes narrative progress reports at the end of each trimester and, where appropriate, scored assessments that support growth and reflection throughout the learning process. Teachers work closely with colleagues across disciplines and benefit from a professional environment that prioritizes shared learning, expert resources, and continuous development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional, student-centered instruction tailored to diverse learning profiles
• Foster a learning environment rooted in respect, curiosity, and mutual trust
• Develop and maintain effective, individualized instructional records and documentation
• Provide timely and actionable feedback to students and families to support learning progress
• Stay abreast of current research and best practices for students who learn differently
• Demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and responsiveness in adjusting instruction to meet student needs
• Collaborate actively and positively with colleagues to support student success
• Supervise students proactively to ensure a safe and healthy environment
• Engage fully in the school community and uphold Pilot’s mission and values
• Model professionalism in communication, conduct, and work habits
• Commit to ongoing professional growth and a mindset of lifelong learning

Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in two school duties per week (such as morning drop-off or lunch supervision)
• Attend and contribute to regularly scheduled faculty and committee meetings
• Complete additional tasks as assigned to advance the school’s mission

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of three years of teaching experience; experience in special education preferred
• Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication
• Strong collaborative skills and the ability to contribute to a positive, mission-driven work culture

Substitute Nurse

The Pilot School seeks substitute school nurses for per diem coverage in a K-8 independent school setting. The successful candidate will be student-centered and committed to a team approach to school-wide health and wellness. This position requires a high degree of interpersonal communication and organizational skills in addition to general nursing duties. Experience in pediatric or community health is preferred. 

Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited RN nursing program 
• Active Delaware Registered Nurse License (or compact state)
• Must have at least two years of clinical experience 
• Current BLS certification

Preferred Skills:

• Previous School Nursing Experience or experience providing healthcare to school-aged children
• PALS certification
• Monitor and maintain health screening/immunization information
• Ability to multitask in a healthcare environment
• Serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment

Position Details:

• This is a per-diem (as needed) position.
• These positions are on-call, as needed positions to fill in for our regular school nurse in their absence. There is no guarantee of hours with these positions. 
• School hours are 7:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday

After School Program Assistant

Reports to Director of Aftercare

Job Summary

We are seeking a high-energy, compassionate individual to join our Kids Club After School Program for the 2026/2027 school year. Students range from 4-14 years old.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for supervising groups of children, snack distribution, setting up and breaking down activities, assisting with homework, and leading activities that promote social and physical development.

Qualifications

• Experience: Previous experience working with children in a classroom, camp, or youth program setting.
• Education: Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred, High School Diploma required.
• Skills: Strong behavior management techniques such as gentle redirection, humor, reminders of school norms.
• Flexible
• Creative
• Calm under pressure

Hours:  Monday – Friday,  2:45 PM – 5:30 PM

Occasional half – day schedule 11:45 – 5:30PM 

Pay Rate: $17–$25 per hour based on experience
